KDSS Spacer Kits
What is KDSS?
KDSS (Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System) spacers are typically used to maintain proper suspension geometry and articulation after installing a lift kit on vehicles equipped with KDSS, such as certain Toyota Land Cruisers, 4Runners, and Lexus GX models.
Here’s why you might need KDSS spacers:
1. Prevent KDSS Binding
When you lift a KDSS-equipped vehicle, the hydraulic system's sway bars can become preloaded or “bound” due to the change in suspension height. This can:
· Limit suspension travel
· Cause poor ride quality
· Increase wear on KDSS components
Spacers correct this preload, allowing the system to function properly with the new ride height.
2. Maintain Articulation and Flex
KDSS is designed to allow for increased articulation off-road. A lift without KDSS spacers can reduce the system’s ability to decouple the sway bars, limiting flex.
Spacers restore the natural articulation range by aligning the KDSS system back to its intended neutral position.
3. Avoid Stress on Hydraulic Cylinders
The KDSS cylinders are mounted to the frame and sway bars. Lifting the vehicle without correcting the KDSS geometry can put the cylinders under constant pressure, which may lead to leaks or failure.
4. Ride Comfort and Safety
Improperly set KDSS after a lift can result in a harsh or unstable ride, especially on-road. Spacers help preserve factory-like ride quality and stability.
